Rediscovering Jesus and Communities of Hope
Thursday, October 14 - Sunday, October 17, 2010
at Horizon Unitarian Universalist Church
Carrollton, TX - Dallas/Fort Worth Metropolitan Area
For the life of the mind, we rediscovered more about Jesus through rediscovering more about the radical early disciples "Peter, Paul, and Mary" in a lecture by Dr. Brandon Scott, who also taught a workshop on new scholarship about the Resurrection from his just published book "The Trouble With Resurrection: From Paul to the Fourth Gospel."
For the life of the spirit, and deepening of community, we explored the 21st century needs of progressive religion, of the calling of our following Jesus by building and sustaining communities of hope, in a lecture from Rev. John Buehrens, who also provided a workshop experience for those to go deeper into how communities struggle and yet are transformative.
For the life of engagement with others, we hosted the leading Buddhist Christian scholar, Dr. Ruben Habito, who told the story of his life and lessons for how Christian faith can be deepened through Buddhist practice.
