The Pacific Southwest UUCF chapter meets monthly, generally on first Sundays, at 3:00 p.m. Two of each three meetings are in Costa Mesa, the alternate meetings in San Diego, Riverside, Santa Monica and sometimes other locations. We begin with a brief Bible study, a check-in, a program, and end with worship, which begins at about 5:00 p.m., usually with a service of the Lord’s Supper. We have a picnic and another dinner meeting annually, sometimes more than that. Our newsletter, The UUncommon Christian, may be subscribed to by e-mailing desertcats_2000@yahoo.com. Our group meets monthly at a member’s home or at the church. Membership has ranged from 10-15. For more information contact: Connie Chin, desertcats_2000@yahoo.com.The newest group in the Pacific Southwest Chapter gathered in Las Vegas in January 2004 under the leadership of Connie Chin and Trudy Ward. We had 15 interested people at the first meeting. These Saturday afternoon meetings focus attention on the latest theological literature regarding Christianity. Members participate in the discussion of the author’s viewpoints followed by a group led service. The group has also been responsible for two Christian services conducted at the UU Congregation of Las Vegas. In May 2005, the Las Vegas group participated in the service, Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time. The service theme was the Seven Principles of the UU’s and their relationship to the teachings of Jesus.
The second service was in April 2006 when Reverend Ron Robinson led a workshop, The Passion Parables of Jesus, and Jesus’ Passion as Parable on Saturday afternoon. As the visiting minister at the Las Vegas church on Sunday, he conducted the service, The Hosanna of the Stones. Despite the distance, several Las Vegas members have been traveling to meetings in California for the past four years.
We hope to have more workshops and will have one in September, 2006. This workshop will be on Centering Prayer led by Rev. David Scheuneman.

UU Congregation…Bible for Liberals group meets every other Tues. eve. at 7:00, and the next one is Sept.19th. We have been studying for 2 yrs so far, starting with parts of the Old Testament and continuing on the Gospels and Revelation. We worked first from John Bueren’s “Understanding the Bible” which I thought was excellent, then moved on to Bishop John Shelby Spong’s “Rescuing the Bible From Fundamentalism”, “and his “The Sins of Scripture”. This fall we are starting to study the Gnostic Gospels. We are doing 2 of Elaine Pagel’s books, and have some excellent videos, and a book by Marvin Meyer and some other sources. Another Bible study group is also beginning. Contact the church at 918-456-7900.-Tulsa, OK
